Strategic Management Course for Social Enterprises in Southeast Asia

The Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) launched the Social Enterprise Strategic Management Course for Oikocredit Partners in Southeast Asia last November 8-12, 2010 at the SEAMEO Innotech, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. Participants of the course were top and middle level management staff of 13 social enterprise partners of Oikocredit from the Philippines and Cambodia.

The course was launched with the delivery of Module I on Social Enterprise Strategy Formation. Social entrepreneurship mentor and ISEA President, Marie Lisa Dacanay was the lead faculty and course director. Ms. Dacanay served as anchor faculty for topics on social entrepreneurship as the art of managing multiple bottom lines, internal assessment and strategic planning. Serving as anchor faculty for stakeholder analysis, social enterprise performance measurement and the log frame approach was Rosalinda Roy, former Drill Master of the Master in Entrepreneurship for Social and Development Entrepreneurs at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). AIM Professor Jacinto Gavino and ICCO Value Chain Development Consultant Rene Guarin served as resource person-consultants for external assessment and value chain analysis respectively. The five-day module utilized lectures, case study discussions, exercises and application workshops.

The module is part of a 16-day course to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of Oikocredit’s partners in strategically managing the development and growth of social mission-driven wealth creating organizations in various agricultural subsectors. Among the participants are top and middle level managers belonging to the biggest fair trade organization in the Philippines, the Alter Trade Group; and an important player in the emerging social enterprise sector in Cambodia, CEDAC.

The 16-day course is divided into 3 modules: Module I on Social Enterprise Strategy Formation; Module II on Strategic Social Enterprise Marketing and Operations Management and Module III on Strategic Social Enterprise Organizational Development and Financial Management. Module II is scheduled on May 16-20, 2011.
