ISEA President graces Oxfam’s 75th Anniversary in London

On April 17, 2018, Oxfam, their partners and members of the business community gathered together at the Museum of London to celebrate Oxfam’s 75th Anniversary. The event, “Breaking New Ground. The Future of Business: Evolving Business Models that can End Poverty and Extreme Inequality”, featured a keynote speech by Unilever’s CEO, Paul Polman. Erinch Sahan, CEO of the World Fair Trade Organization led an engaging panel discussion with Mr. Polman along with Sophi Tranchell MBE, Group CEP of Divine Chocolate, and ISEA’s founding President, Dr. Marie Lisa Dacanay.

Oxfam believes in the power of businesses to make a positive impact on society and the environment. The purpose of the panel discussion was to explore new stakeholder models that could possibly help the fight against poverty. Dr. Dacanay discussed how poverty and inequality persisted throughout the region despite the growing economies of Asia. She highlighted the importance of Social Enterprises with the Poor as Primary Stakeholders in enabling the poor as actors in their own development and in addressing inequality.
