ISEA conducts Orientations on Social Entrepreneurship and on Action Research Design for CPDE members and partners

From March 7 to 9, 2022, the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) and the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) successfully conducted an online course, “Orientation on Social Entrepreneurship.” The faculty in the online course was ISEA President, Dr. Marie Lisa Dacanay discussing the following learning sessions: (LS01) Getting a Handle on Social Entrepreneurship; (LS02) Exploring PRESENT as CSO-SE Platform for Development Cooperation; and, (LS03) Exploring the Potentials of CSO-SE Platforms for Inclusive Recovery, Building Back Fairer and Accelerating the SDGs. Also part of the course was the “Orientation on the Action Research Design” led by ISEA Team member, Ms Ria Toquero which was conducted on March 11, 2022.

The objectives of the course were for participants to have “a shared understanding of social entrepreneurship concepts and tools and how such may be relevant to the ICT sector, and among enablers and supporters of community networks and community-based connectivity initiatives.”  

Particularly, the course aimed to achieve the following objectives at the end of the course:

  • a shared understanding of social entrepreneurship as a global phenomenon and how it has evolved in developing country contexts; 
  • explored the relevance of social entrepreneurship to civil society organizations interested or already engaged in supporting/collaborating with social enterprises to enrich their efforts in development cooperation discussions and advocacy 
  • appreciated the potentials of crafting a common CSO-SE agenda as input to development cooperation discussions and advocacy in their respective countries and regions 

The online course was exclusively for CPDE members and partners who were leaders, managers and key staff who would be engaged in the global action research on Social Enterprises as Potential Partners in Development Cooperation Advocacy focused on 8 countries: Indonesia and the Philippines in Asia; El Salvador and Argentina in Latin America; Tanzania and Zimbabwe in Eastern Africa; Palestine in Middle East and North Africa; and Albania in Eastern Europe. 

After the sessions, ISEA team uploaded the learning materials to ISEA’s e-learning platform to serve as a repository of the lectures, recordings and presentations for participants to refer to in case they missed a live session or even beyond the completion of the course.
