ISEA conducts an Orientation on Social Entrepreneurship and Financial Management for APC Partners

From August 4 to October 6, 2021, the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) and the Association of Progressive Communications (APC) successfully conducted an online course titled as the “Orientation on Social Entrepreneurship and Financial Management.”

The faculty in the online course were Dr. Marie Lisa Dacanay (Module 1:  Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship), Prof. Albert Teo (Module 2: Understanding Social Return on Investment or SROI), and Prof. Ronald Chua (Module 3: Social Enterprise Financial Management).

The objectives of the course were for participants to have “a shared understanding of social entrepreneurship concepts and tools and how such may be relevant to the ICT sector, and among enablers and supporters of community networks and community-based connectivity initiatives.”  

Particularly, the course objectives aimed that the participants should have:

  • a shared understanding of social entrepreneurship in a developing country context;
  • a shared understanding of what measuring social impact means and what the tools of development indexing and social return on investment (SROI) are about;
  • a shared understanding of the critical elements of social enterprise financial management; and,
  • explored the relevance of the aforementioned social entrepreneurship concepts and tools to the ICT sector and among enablers and supporters of community networks and community-based connectivity initiatives.

This course was exclusively for APC and partners which took place every Wednesday, from 8:00 to 10:00 PM Manila time via Zoom platform. It was also the first time that ISEA used an e-learning platform to serve as a repository of the lectures, presentations, and other resource materials for participants to refer to in case they missed a live session or even beyond the completion of the course.
